Desèa is a friendly machine designed to offer the complete package and experience of Italian coffee culture: from a regular, small espresso to authentic fresh milk-based beverages like real cappuccino or latte macchiato. The prominent, touch sensitive user interface is particularly intuitive and includes acoustic feedback. It is ergonomically angled and arranges the main selections in two separate groups – pure coffee on the left and milk-based beverages on the right. The temperature and milk foam settings can be personalized with special boost functions, offering a tailor-made coffee experience for every taste or occasion. Any required service, like an empty water tank, a full capsule container or the necessity for descaling, is indicated in the centre with backlit alert icons ensuring simple and intuitive daily maintenance. The machine uses a patented fresh milk frothing system that allows the preparation of the selected beverage directly in the dedicated glass mug. The shape of this mug is a linear evolution of the brand's traditional and iconic espresso cup. The cup rest has a solid metal grid, is removable and dishwasher safe. Its height can be adjusted easily in two different positions allowing for smaller Espresso cups to be closer to the spout. This reduces coffee splashes and has benefits for coffee temperature and coffee crema. The vertical surface in the dispensing area is visually structured with a horizontal texture pattern. The main exterior shell is made from one single piece reducing visible shut-lines to a minimum and proudly displays the brand on the main side surface. The shoulder profile lowers the perceived height of the product. The big external water tank at the back of the machine is easily accessible, and removable. It is transparent, providing immediate visual feedback, so the user will always know when it is time to refill it. The energy consumption and the overall life cycle assessment of our products are important aspects in our development process. A lot of work has also been done to reduce the noise level of the machine. So Deséa is remarkable quiet, only takes about 28 seconds to get the circuit to operating temperature and switches off automatically after 9 minutes. The product was developed by Lavazza’s own in-house design team in Turin, Italy. The process was inspired by a series of different products (examples include a vase and automotive interior controls) and included conceptual and formal research, 3D modelling, several mock-ups and prototyping. The result is an award winning design with an open spirit, high quality surfacing and sophisticated detailing. It is also a linear evolution of Lavazza’s established form language - essential and playful, composed from simple and bold formal elements and with special attention to colours, materials, and finishes. Desèa is also available with a special metallic paint finish underlining the unique character of the machine. So naturally the spirit of the product is cheerful, social, and positive but also elegant and sophisticated – essentially very Italian.
