Deco is a high-performance home WiFi system that produces a lightning fast connection that never fails. The series uses TP-Link’s proprietary mesh technology, which automatically switches devices for the best speed and consistent signal as you move around the house. Because these products sit out in the open, the industrial design needed to be absolutely exquisite in form, detail, and color. Furthermore, since you can’t see their actual wireless functionality, we built in subtle metaphorical symbols to suggest speed, range, and purpose. Each Deco product includes a unique feature exclusive to TP-Link. The DecoV20 is the first mesh router with a speaker, so we incorporated an acoustic conic reflector and highlighted it in bright red; the DecoM4 needed to release a lot of heat, so we turned the top vent grill into the primary design detail; the DecoX80 is a 5G router that features a spinning form at the top to suggest power; and the X20 and M9 have a top step detail that symbolizes the sweep of radar to suggest long range. Form follows emotion and function in these designs, which also incorporate TP Link’s distinct brand language. These products are all bestsellers in their market, already shipping hundreds of thousands of units per month. Since all the Deco mesh routers use internal antennas, we could design the entire product line and packaging in a very compact way. This also helps reduce the shipping fee for TP-LINK. Shipping services use less energy due to smaller packages. Additionally, most of the pre-owned Decos are quite popular in the second-hand market. People can buy the one at a lower price and extend the lifetime of Decos. The plastic the router used can be recycled for manufacturing other products, which TP-LINK plans to make.
